The Hyde Estate in West Sussex, within easy reach of London, has been family-owned for over 100 years. The stunning Wild Gardens are available for a small amount of marquee weddings every year.
The Wild Gardens essentially offer an outdoor blank canvas (and with our very own Monet-style
bridge, a blank canvas is a rather fitting description!) Pretty as a picture, the land is yours to create
your very own bespoke celebration. We have an extensive list of recommended suppliers and our
experienced in-house wedding planner Susie is on hand for advice and guidance. Susie can give you
ideas based on what’s been done before and she loves supporting, and helping to facilitate, creative
new ideas.
The ground are made up of ancient woodland, romantic gardens and a tranquil lake. The colours are
incredible, pops of pink and purple in summer and intense oranges as summer turns to autumn.
The setting allows for your choice of marquee structure – Nordic tipi, traditional pole tent, stretch
tent, Pearl tent etc. Have the sides open for an airy inside/out feel with panoramic views from your
dining tables across the wild gardens and lake. To feel even closer to nature you could opt for a clear
roof marquee to marvel at the starry night sky as your guests cut some shapes on the dancefloor.
Position your marquee as you wish and map out the grounds to suit your requirements. Why not set
up a lakeside ceremony under the trees? And a bohemian outdoor lounge set-up works well for a
relaxed feel.
Last summer Adam and Louisa’s ceremony set up was beautiful. They had rows of
wooden vintage-style chairs, rugs and lanterns running down the aisle and a rustic ladder arch
complete with beautiful floral display. After the ceremony they took away the chairs and
transformed the area into a chillout area, strewn with comfy cushions.
Lighting is important at The Hyde Estate. The trees are crying out for strings of festoon bulbs and
we’ve seen some incredible, dramatic installations to light up the garden’s manicured features.
Interior Design
This really is an inside/outside wedding venue. It’s about how the marquee looks as part of the
grounds, and how the gardens look as part of the indoor set-up. The beauty of a marquee wedding is
you really can build your own venue depending on your personal taste and requirements.
Long wooden trestles tables work well for a ‘boho luxe’ vibe whereas round tables with linen cloths
work for a fresh, more formal feel. Position the tables so the top table gets the best view if you like…
or position the top table in front of the best view, all eyes will be on your after all! Think photo ops,
they’re everywhere!
You decide where you want the bar – inside if you have space or outside, from a mobile vendor
perhaps, to encourage relaxed drinks by the lake as the sun sets.
You choose the positioning of the dancefloor and where to have your chillout lounge. Read our
recent post where our in-house planner Susie suggests different style ideas for chillout lounges.
Think ‘country-style’ comprising Chesterfields, club chairs and wing-back armchairs, or perhaps opt
for something a little more fresh and contemporary.
If you’re looking for a land venue for your marquee wedding, we hope you’ll agree The Wild Gardens
at The Hyde Estate are a great choice. Come and have a look and take in the beautiful colours for
yourself.
